CARBON PAPER PRINTS – UNIQUE ORIGINAL EDITIONS

The photographs in this gallery are all produced as unique editions, which will never be reproduced again.

Monochrome papers have not been commercially available for several decades, but in France there is a direct carbon printing workshop run by Michel FRESSON and his son Jean-François, grandson and great-grandson of the inventor, producing world-renowned work for photographic museums, national archives, collectors, and certain photographers who are adept at new forms of expression.
It was Pierre FRESSON, one of the inventor’s sons, who in 1952 produced the first direct colour carbon print (without transfer). The previous enlargement device is retained, but a preliminary technique of selecting the colour image in black and white silver halide negative analysis allows pigment printing to be carried out.
